Lonely Planet chose Peruvian North as Machu Picchu alternative
Regions such as Chachapoyas, San Martin and Huaraz were considered for their geology, tropical parks and snowy mountains as destinations that an international tourist must visit this year
One of the main travel publishers in the world, Lonely Planet, recommends visiting attractions in Peru’s northern region. The publication highlighted options such as Amazonas, Áncash and San Martín, different from Machu Picchu.
The magazine, which has sold about 120 million books and 11 million downloads of its app, showed tourist attractions of these departments, in addition to its historical heritage that goes back to pre-Inca cultures.
Thus, the company, a relevant source among backpackers and travel lovers, has decided to raise this tourist positioning to include the Peruvian north in its Best in Travel list, as one of the best regions to know this 2019.
Some of the chosen places are the impressive Kuélap fortress in the Amazon, the imposing Gocta waterfall next to the mystical mummies of Leymebamba, the Callejón de Huaylas with Huaraz snow-capped mountains, the San Martín region and its city of orchids, among others.
