More than five million tourists will come Peru after Pan American games

More than five million foreign tourists will visit Peru next year, after the successful organization of  Pan American Games, Lima 2019, according to the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) chairman, Carlos Canales.

“Our country is consolidating its image as a friendly and mega-diverse destination, ideal for tourists around the world due to its cultural background and natural attractions thanks to the Pan American Games,” he stated to the News Agency.

He added that Peru has a wide biodioversity and gastronomy “worldwide recognized” which is opening new tourist circuits and the possibility of attract a greater flow of tourists.

“The quality of the opening ceremony of the 2019 Pan American Games Lima generated a global expectation and about 1 billion people followed the sport event until its closing,” he said.

The quality of the organization, he added, has exceeded all expectations, which is recognized by Pan American Sports representatives themselves.

In that sense, he said that the quality of the contents shown is remarkable, especially in light, color and sound ceremonies, in which a comprehensive summary of our cultural background was made.

In this way, he reiterated that the tourism sector will grow at double-digit rates starting next year as a result of the strategy promoted by the Government in favor of this sector.

“This government has taken more actions to boost the growth of the tourism sector. Thanks to the installation of the sector technical table, right decisions have been made, ”he said.

Among the main countries of tourists origin to Peru, Chile is followed by the United States, Australia, Canada, China and European Union countries.

Canales projected that this year a total of 4.5 million foreign tourists will arrive in the country. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) previously estimated, for its part, that this year 4 million 800,000 international tourists will arrive in the country.
