More than one million foreign tourists visited Peru between january and may

Foreign Trade and Tourism minister, Edgar Vásquez, stated today that between January and May 2019  international tourists arrivals increased to 1.823,536. This number meant a growth of 2.4% (42,446 more tourists) compared to the same period of 2018 when 1.781,090 foreign visitors arrived.

“Indeed, it highlights the arrival of travelers from our main source of tourists, Chile with a  6.8% growth and an additional flow of 34,000 international tourists to Peru,” he said.

The United States is next (5.7% or 14,000 more); then Ecuador (27.2% or 30,000 more); Colombia (5.4% or 5,000 more); Bolivia (24.4% or 16,000 more); Mexico (18.4% or 7,000 more); Spain (4.5% or 2,000 more); France (14.3% or 5,000 more) and Canada (9.3% or 4,000 more).

“It should be noted that these nine countries concentrate more than 70% of the total international arrivals in our country,” pointed  Minister Vásquez. It’s noteworthy  that there was an increase of 7.3% (45,780 more) of tourists coming from The Pacific Alliance affiliated countries.

Arrivals from these countries represented 36.9% of the total international arrivals. Similarly, he highlighted the arrival of tourists coming from Asia and Central America.

“In this sense, although the entry of tourists from China is still small, in 2019 reach 18,000 visitors, we consider it to be one of the markets with the greatest potential for growth,” said Mincetur.

It should be noted that the arrival of international tourists entering the Jorge Chávez Airport increased to 1.333,527 tourists, a 6.1% growth.


On the other hand, the Santa Rosa Border Control Post (PCF), located in Tacna, registered 434,179 arrivals (2.8% more).


“We have a lot of expectation for the upcoming tourist arrivals at the 2019 Pan American games  and Parapan American Games in Lima, as well as the various Promotion Campaigns that we carry out with Promperú,” he said.
